For a while, my face has been a playground for acne. I kept ignoring it, hoping it would just be gone one fine morning. But since then, many fine mornings have passed and the games have just continued unabated. I kept thinking about doing something and one day I read here that Mary Kay acne treatment gel does wonders. I scoured the net for reviews, looked around and finding tolerable reviews all around, finally decided to place an order.
So I did that on October 6th. I registered at the website. I got an email from an independent consultant in my area that she will contact me for delivery and final price. So I waited for the delivery knowing it takes time and then waited some more. Then I reread the email, it said that she will contact me. So far, no contact had been made. Then I made a call to this person. The message was in Spanish. I left a message. Then another 5 days passed. Nothing. Finally I called again today. She thankfully picked up the phone. She said she had moved to North Carolina and she will have someone deliver the package to me.
OK.
I have never purchased Mary Kay products before. I don't know how the company works.
Is it like Southern Living, Pampered Chef, Quixtar, Monavie etc where you pay
Is it an isolated incident that she never contacted me or sent me the product? Anyone with experience like this?
Basically, how does this whole thing work? Do the sales people come and do home delivery? Why don't they just mail it?
Anyone with Mary Kay experience is welcome to chime in.
I just want to know.

Yes, MaryKay is like Pampered Chef or whatever where there's essentially a middleman that you go to for purchase.
If you lived here, I could point you to about a dozen MK consultants. It's very big in Dallas, seeing as this is where the company is based. I'm not a huge fan of MK products, but many people are.
Ask around at your office or church for a new consultant if you like the product, assuming it's ever actually shipped to you. There's bound to be someone who uses the stuff. (But then again, I live in a place where it seems like everyone uses MK, so my perception of this may be skewed.)
If all else fails, see a dermatologist. I have acne rosacea, and no over-the-counter stuff works for me. But that's just me and my skin. Hopefully, this MK stuff will work well for you.
Yes, what ewokgirl said. I've been to a couple Mary Kay parties. My SIL gave me a foot pampering set for Christmas one year, and I loved it. However, I haven't used any other MK products. I do remember that everything has lots of steps. Was the product you bought (trying to buy) part of a line? I think you have to buy all four or five or one hundred bottles of stuff for it to work well.
I'm sorry that I don't know a consultant in the area.
And I know how much you LOVE that kind of marketing. :)
I would also recommend seeing a dermatologist if nothing is helping.
I've never sold MK, but my roommmate's mother does it on the side. Yes, it is similar to Pampered Chef. I am in love with a MK facial scrub, but I purchase it on eBay for less than half the retail price. Just make sure the product is sealed.
Clean & Clean is a decent acne gel, as is St. Ive's medicated scrub.
I do not like Mary Kay products. They are ridculously overpriced and do not work. In my opinion.
Have you tried the Noxema line carried at Walmart? There is one that is a STRONG acne wash where they claim in 3 days you will notice a difference. I have used it and it does work. The St. Ives facial acne scrub works well, too.
I take medication for my acne now because mine is so bad. Just a low-dose birth control pill does the trick. Keeps me from puking and passing out during my periods and it has cleared up all my acne problems! Love it!! (and i don't care what others think or have to say about birth control pills...because sometimes they work for other stuff and are used for other things than what their name implies. such is my case)
usaincognito, I, too, took birth control for several years for female problems. My skin was beautiful while I was on the pill! I went off several years ago due to migraines, and that's when my acne problems started up. Darned hormones!
Annie, I don't know how serious your acne issues are, but if you just need a good spot gel, I think Clinique's spot gel is really good stuff. It always worked well for me when I'd have the odd zit appear. If you need something for a more severe issue (as I do now), then I again recommend a dermatologist if the OTC stuff hasn't helped.
