Valentines Day Weekend

So how are you all doing my dear interpeeps? I haven't been around much. The general sickness is getting better, and I am truly hoping it stays away. How was your Valentines Day weekend? Ours was terribly exciting and romantic. We flew first class to Hawaii for the weekend on an impulse trip.

If you believed that for one second, let me just say, welcome to my blog.

We did taxes all day long and made faces (what is up with THIS expense?) eyes at each other all throughout. It is truly stuff warm fuzzies are made of. We had a LOT OF tax things to be done since hubby has a business and towards evening, I continued to do that while DH made his specialty Chinese Fried Rice (CFR). We are all about traditional gender roles in our family. Husband cooks and wife does the finance stuff. Wait, that is not traditional? Then we are all about flouting traditions in our household.

I kid, I kid. We don't care much about "gender roles" in our little family. It is about who can get the job done better, faster.

Anyway, CFR is a very time consuming and painstaking dish, so he makes it only sparingly. It has 9 vegetables, rice, 7 sauces and spices and it is GOOD. I remember he used to make it while we were in Ohio. I was in school at the time and hubby (not hubby then) was working. When he had to cook CFR, he would call me and ask me if I was busy. If I had any inkling he was planning to make it, I would run for the hills. Because, did I mention that 9 vegetables needed to be cut? Ok, so I was a bad, bad person.

Anyway, while I finished up the taxes, he made CFR. We bought some bubbly to go along with the nice dinner. The dining table was full of stuff and I had no energy to clean it. So, although it was a Saturday, we sat on the couch in our pajamas, watched Hell's kitchen on hulu and ate.

It was absolutely perfect. At this point, with my current energy level, I will take this over any Hawaii trip.

And the best thing? A hubby who would not only cook, but also (the most important part) clean up and put the dishes in the washer!

This is the CFR. I have to say it tastes much better than it looks.

Okay, so I believed you about Hawaii until you said otherwise.

Taxes? Now that sounds so much more down to earth and real life. Jonathan spent much of V-Day studying because he had to preach the next day. I researched part of the local housing laws. We are very exciting and romantic, too.

But it beat last year when he'd just got out of surgery and was drugged up and in pain. :)

Glad you're feeling a little better.

You really belived it? Neither of us have EVER flown first class, and trust you me, when we travel, it is after months of careful planning and budgeting.

Impulse trip to HI from FL for two in first class? We dont have THAT kind of money.

Don't you think KS would be much more romantic than Hawaii?? You do, don't you???

We miss you.

Heh. I didn't even notice the first class bit when I first read it. Maybe that would have tipped me off. ;) In the split second before figuring out the joke, I figured you'd gotten some terrific last minute deal on priceline.com.

Come on, wouldn't an impulse trip to Hawaii be fun? Even us dull people have to admit that it would be fun!

More fun than taxes and housing laws.

Oh, I flew first class ONCE. I was traveling with a friend who is such a frequent flier that he not only got an automatic upgrade but got to upgrade a friend (me) as well. They served a delish cheesecake. :)

But honestly, flying first class is overrated. You don't have that much more space and the food isn't that much better. Plane trips are long and cramped no matter what class. If you want to blow money, first class air travel is not the place to blow it.

I'd recommend chocolate.

Lizzy, now those are the kind of friends to hang out with. I wonder why we don't have any like that.

Hope, We will hop on the car and visit you now if you let the baby come back with us. I miss squishing him. There is nobody here to squish. And that is very sad.

I was like AK, ya right, not with 98%, impulses shouldn't happen :) The lines that followed made sense though.. What's up with your health. take care.. As usual my taxes will go in at the last min, like April 2nd week or so I guess !

Did you know that if you travel enough, your checked bags don't get searched and you don't get charged for any bags? If that isn't a reason to jet off to tropical locales on a whim, I don't know what is!

I'm very impressed you do your own taxes.

We spent our valentine's day having a police report filed as my ID's were stolen. Now how's that for a "romantic" day! lol.

I am with you on the nontraditional roles, too. B is a WAY better cleaner than I am!!! So he can do all the laundry and cleaning he wants!! I still cook or else we both would starve if he attempted to cook. We both are good at finances - him being more conservative and me being more balanced. So we work out pretty good together. :)
