Has your husband been tested for allergies? It could have been a fluke with that dog. Or maybe he's allergic to dogs, but not cats. Cats are great pets for people who aren't home during the day. They just sleep all day, then they greet you at the door when you come home. Very low maintenance, in general.
Anne Marie, He has been tested for allergies and the allergy number was VERY high. We can't have cats becasue I have a condition which comes from handling cat litter. It got so serious it even affected my brain (didn't find that out until later). So no dogs or cats for us ever.
Just now seeing the comments here. Cat litter affected your brain, huh? So that's what did it...
:) Just kidding. :)
Re: Dorothy Sayers, if your library has a selection of mysteries by her, I'd go with the Peter Whimsey before the Montague Egg ones.
"Whose Body?" is the first Whimsey one, and "Strong Poison" the first in a mini-series inside that series. Either would give you a good introduction to the characters, but by no means do you need to read certain ones first. Each one can stand alone. I read all of them every year or two.
"Gaudy Night" is my favorite. I reread it just this week. It has nothing to do with what the title initially sounded like to my modern ears. :)
{hugs} We had a cat in Kuwait that we loved. Right about the time he finally made friends with the dog we had to give him back to our friend. DH was just too allergic. But the two housecats we've had back in the States he's been miraculously un-allergic to. :D
